Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie BETRAYED the medically high-risk teachers he swore to protect. Tell Runcie we care about ALL teachers.

Ninety percent of Broward Schools teachers have EAGERLY returned to their classrooms to teach.

A limited number of educators with COVID-19 comorbidities have continued teaching remotely full-time, to students who are also at home. Superintendent Runcie has broken his promise to keep these teachers healthy and safe, by forcing them to return to school -- even though classrooms are more than half empty, and the pandemic is still raging.

This is no way to treat our most medically fragile educators who have dedicated years of service to our children, and to our community.

We need your help.  Please sign the petition.  These teachers can not be forced to put their lives at risk for no reason.

Superintendent Runcie, meet two of the teachers you have betrayed:

Michael Porter

a teacher at Bennett Elementary School who has severe hypertension.

Mark Whalen

a teacher at Indian Ridge Middle who has kidney disease and asthma.

High blood pressure is the most commonly shared pre-existing condition among those hospitalized, affecting between 30% to 50% of the patients. Other health conditions included cancer, diabetes, or lung disease. In Italy, a report said that more than 99% of people who had died from the virus had one of these conditions -- and 76% of them had high blood pressure. (Source: eWbMD)

Should teachers like Michael Porter become a statistic when there is still a great need for remote teachers?

"Our data demonstrate that renal impairment in patients admitted to intensive care with COVID‐19 is common and is associated with a high mortality and requirement for on‐going renal support after discharge from critical care. COVID-19 patients who have chronic kidney disease (CKD)..face higher odds of death than their otherwise-healthy peers, according to a study published late last week in Anaesthesia." (Source: CIDRAP)

For teachers like Mark Whalen, being in the classroom could be a death sentence. What kind of boss would force their employees into that kind of danger?

Shame on you, Robert Runcie.
